Solar Water Heating

 Description:

  • A solar heating system utilizes the sun rays to heat water which can be used for bathing, washing utensils, and clothes, etc.
  • The cold enters the solar heater from a pipeline, then it is transferred into the evacuated tubes.

  • These tubes are exposed to sunlight it collects the solar energy in the form of heat and raises the temperature of the water up to 80ºC.
  • Due to the Thermosyphon effect, hot water rises upward and cold travels downward, in this way hot water is collected in the insulated tank of the solar heater.
  • The Insulated tank maintains the temperature of hot water so that it is ready to use when required (in the morning).

Advantages:

  • The solar heating system takes less than a Solar power plant, Fewer is required to heat water than in an array used to produce sufficient hot water for a home.
  • This system is highly efficient up to 80 % if the solar radiation is converted into heat energy needed to obtain hot water.
  • After installation, little maintenance is required, and a solar heating system can run for more than 20 years.
  • This is a low-maintenance solar system with emergency battery backup.
  • The solar heating system reduces monthly electricity bills because it reduces the use of power-hungry electric water heaters.

Disadvantages:

  • Compared to solar PV panels, solar heating systems only heat water.
  • If you want to utilize your rooftop space efficiently, a combination of a Solar heating system and a Solar Power system is a better option.
