Solar Off-Grid System
Description:
- The solar panel generates DC current when exposed to sunlight.
- DC current generated is then stored in batteries using a smart inverter.
- During the day solar energy is used to charge the batteries and fulfill load requirements.
- During the night and cloudy days, batteries are used to supply load.
- Backup power is kept in the batteries for emergency conditions.
- In rare conditions when solar power generation is low and battery capacity is also low then grid power will be used.

Advantages:
- Off-Grid systems are not dependent on power outages due to grid failure therefore uninterrupted power supply 24×7.
- This is a low-maintenance solar system with emergency battery backup.
- The efficiency of the system is more than 90% and is best suited for areas with frequent power cuts.
Disadvantages:
- With all the equipment and batteries, the off-grid system is costlier than the grid-tied system.
- The excess energy produced is wasted as there is no grid connection to the system for net metering.
- If power cuts are not frequent but need a battery backup solution then a Solar hybrid system should be preferred.
